Onkyo MP-1000J

(via Ubergizmo)

Having had good experiences with Onkyo audio equipment, I find this intriguing:

Onkyo has developed a portable media player that requires some basic technical know-how to put together. It is also very different from other standard issue PMPs as it does not come with any screen – you will have to plug it to your TV instead. In addition, you will have to purchase a 2.5″ hard drive yourself and insert it before getting started. This hard drive-based PMP supports all the major media codecs, including MPEG-1/2/4, DivX, XviD, MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and JPEG. Each purchase comes bundled with a remote control, a car charger, and all sorts of cables.

MPEG-1/2/4 and Ogg Vorbis — It certainly has potential. It’ll be interesting to see how this device handles not having a display screen.
