I was just sitting here listening to Arturo Sandoval blowing his trumpet and felt nostalgic. I was trying to remember the lead soloist for Hawthorne Caballaros, Jimmie something...it would be great to get some copies of their hay days shows from the late 50' and into the 60's.
Remeber the year they took most of the players from the Muchachos (their feeder corp) and came out with a monster show? I can't remember how many they had in the horn line but it was big.

That makes me very sad and it shows me, how violable and vunerable our world is. Let's fight thogether against that evil and lets never forget. Since then I've taught M&M for many years, written drum corps and winter guard drills, judged the visual caption for 4 years, been the director of a corps, and an flat out fan since day 1. There has been NOTHING in my life that has given me the sense of satisfaction, teamwork, and pure joy that my association with D & B has.
do I miss the 'old' days? You betcha. Do I love the activity the way it is today? You betcha. I'm really glad to see Div II and Div III ranks starting to swell again 'cuz that's what keeps the activity going.
Having said that, see ya in Denver!!

Started in a Corps called The Queenaires from Queens, NY, then moved up to St. Joeseph's Patron Cadets who then became St. Rita's Brassmen. I played french horn then melophone. For those of you new to Drum Corps, I urge you to keep it alive. My memories of marching with one of the first junior corps that was ethnically diverse are very vivid. The lessons learned from winning and losing and yet putting every bit of one's heart into every performance has stayed with me throughout my life and career. There is never anything lost when you give 110%! The history of Drum Corps (if ever written honestly!) will clearly state that St. Rita's Brassmen were among the very best who ever stepped on the field.

Date: Thu Aug 1 16:53:53 2002 Homepage: http://thekaamilgroup.getwebnet.com From: Newark, NJ Referred from: Google Comments: Greetings. I lived and attended school in Newark, NJ. During the early sixties the city of Newark had over nine (9) junior drum and bugle corps. I started in drum corp at the age of 8 with the Keyport NJ Drum & Bugle Corps. I also marched with a parade unit, the Elk Corp based in Newark NJ and the Wynn Center(PAL) Toppers from Brooklyn, NY in the the early sixties. From 1963 to 1966 I was a member of St Rosa Lima Drum Corp (Newark, NJ) where I played soprano horn. During 1966 I served a brief sting with St. Lucy Cadets (Newark NJ). In 1966 I was recurited by Horn Instructer, Jimmy Day to join the Blessed Sacrement Golden Knights where I played French Horn and soprano for a short while. Myself and a close friend, (one of the finest solo soprano players from Newark), Ritchie Davis (now deceased) left the Golden Knights and together we joined the (Bronx) New York Kingsmen where I played solo soprano until the corp disbanded in 1969. As a youth I competed with and witnessed some of the best drum corps in America, such as, The Woodsiders (Newark NJ); St. Roccos Cadets; Blue Rock; Chicago Royal Airs; Muchachos; Bridgement; 27th Lancers; Bridgeport PAL; Troopers; Des Plaines Vanguard; Racine Kilties; St. Joseph's of Batavia; St. Rita's Brassmen; Boston Crusaders; Phanton Regiment; St. Kevin's Emerald Knights, and other corps. I left drum corp at the age of 21 but have fond memories of great fun times with corp members, fans, and some truly great drum corp championship tourmnents. I am still involved in music, I am now the head of a music concert producer and artist management firm . Best regards, Richard Baldwin

I have loved your compositions - they're relaxing and inspiring. I really loved your album DUSK. I like GONE very much that I was able to play that in my guitar with almost 90% of its actual composition played. The problem of course is that piano is different from guitar in the sense of playing. But thanks to the guitars ability to be retuned. Your GONE with the key of Eb was too hard to play in guitar so I tried to play it in such a way that I could capitalized in using the open strings. After three months of trial and error of what tuning should I make, Gone is in my Fingers! I have to change its key to C. My friend would then always request me to play that lovely piece of yours. I am only studying guitar all by myself. I'm expecting another piece of yours so that I can play it with my guitar but I can't find anymore a book of yours where your great pieces are into. Anyway, thanks for reading this. It's too long, isn't it? I'm just excited. I'm hoping you will once again have a concert here in Manila! Good luck and more power JIM! God bless. :)

Tenor drums with the Cadets and rudimental bass drum with the Ridgemen. Those were some great times with all the great corps of the 60's. There was so much talent in the New York/New Jersey area during those days. I was lucky to be around when Drum Corps were King !!!

God bless. :)
